Laucala Island, Fiji
Working as part of a team assembled by WATG, the Masterplanners and Project Managers, Braemar Golf were tasked with developing the vision and creation of a golf course on the private island of Red Bull owner, Dietrich Mateschitz. The golf course would form part of a redevelopment of the old "Forbes" Island, to include lodging, spa, hospitality and of course extreme leisure.
Braemar undertook an architect selection process to find the best architect to deliver not only the quality demanded by the owner and WATG, but someone who could manage and assemble a team capable of building the golf course on an island as remote as Laucala. This led to the selection of David McLay Kidd who has gone on to be one of the worlds most sought after architects.
Braemar provided support to DMK in terms of the proposed golf course routings to fit in the overall island masterplan and then agronomy services and assisted in bringing together the necessary services and resources to build and subsequently maintain this remote golf course including planning of the maintenance facility, procurement of maintenance equipment and consumables and a agronomic maintenance plan for the incoming team.
